Kindergarten Assessments

The specific types of assessments used in the Little Lincoln kindergarten curriculum are as follows:

1. National Assessment

  • A national assessment can be given three times during kindergarten to assess early literacy development and/or basic math skills.
  • It is the only aspect of kindergarten that would need to take place at a scheduled time, but it can be done online. Each Guide will schedule a time for his or her student to be tested with the assigned Elementary Teacher Facilitator at the beginning, middle, and end of the year.

2. Fluency Assessment

  • Fluency and pronunciation are assessed every three weeks.
  • Each student will read single letters and their sounds, sight words, and sentences.
  • Each student’s voice will be recorded so that the Elementary Teacher Facilitator can listen to the recording and assess the student’s fluency and pronunciation.

3. Reading Comprehension Assessment

  • Each student will listen to one audio recording of a short story at the end of each season, for a total of four reading comprehension assessments.
  • The student will then complete multiple choice questions to test his reading comprehension. For example: What was the story about? A. Cats; B. Dogs; C. Baseball.
  • The multiple choice questions will be graded automatically online. The results will be reviewed by the Elementary Teacher Facilitator and shared with the Guide.

4. Scanned Assessment

  • These assignments will be completed offline by the student, scanned by the Guide, and submitted to the Elementary Teacher Facilitator.
  • Each assessment will be one of the reading or writing assignments for the week. These assignments are found in the Activities Books that each student will receive. The Guide will be instructed to tear out and scan each assessment upon completion.
  • The worksheet that is to be scanned and submitted has a visible notation so that the Guide will easily recognize each assessment.
  • Reading and Writing: The worksheet that is to be scanned and submitted has a visible notation so that the Guide will easily recognize each assessment.
  • Math:Each student will complete one math assessment every other week.
