Second Grade

Second Grade Assessments

The specific types of assessments used in the Little Lincoln second grade curriculum are as follows:

1. National Assessment

  • A national assessment can be given three times during second grade to assess early literacy development and/or basic math skills.
  • It is the only aspect of second grade that would need to take place at a scheduled time, but it can be done online. Each Guide will schedule a time for his or her student to be tested with the assigned Elementary Teacher Facilitator at the beginning, middle, and end of the year.

2. Fluency Assessments

  • Fluency and pronunciation are assessed eight times per year.
  • Each student will name sounds in nonsense words, identify sight words, and read a passage.
  • Each student’s voice will be recorded so that the Elementary Teacher Facilitator can listen to the recording and assess the student’s fluency and pronunciation.

3. Scanned Assessments

  • These assignments will be completed offline by the student, scanned by the Guide, and submitted to the Elementary Teacher Facilitator.
  • Each assessment will be one of the reading or writing assignments for the week. These assignments are found in the Activities Books that each student will receive. The Guide will be instructed to tear out and scan each assessment upon completion.
  • The worksheet that is to be scanned and submitted will have a visible notation so that the Guide will easily recognize each assessment
  • Reading and Writing: Each student will complete one reading or writing assessment per week.
  • Math: Each student will complete one math assessment per week.
  • Cursive: Each student will complete one cursive handwriting assessment every other week during the winter and spring seasons.
  • Spelling: Each student will complete one spelling assessment at the end of each week. The words for the assessment will be introduced at the beginning of the week, and several of the weekly activities will involve the spelling words.
